JASENOVAC

VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF JASENOVAC

This project presents an encompassing image of the system of concentration and death camps Jasenovac. By using a twofold approach (scientific and artistic) project addresses the most difficult questions of one of the most notorious concentration camps in the Second World War and tells a story about humanity, dignity, and respect for life. Through probably the most painful chapter of our common history, we managed to initiate the audience’s reactions that are quite different than stereotypical – when it comes to stories about genocide and war atrocities. Instead of hatred – we managed to initiate reactions about love. Instead of death – we look into life.

The audio exhibition is supported by:
Gallery Shtab
Gallery Progress
Museum of Genocide Victims
Museum 21st October
Municipality Stari Grad
Avala Studios

The project contains three intertwined components:

AUDIO EXHIBITION

The audio exhibition is an artistic interpretation of the historic material and a combination of spatial art installations and audio stories integrated into a web application for mobile phones. In the dark space of the exhibition, visitors can listen to eight audio experiences related to real stories about persons that lived and died in the Jasenovac concentration camp.
This deep, reflective, and immersive experience has been exhibited in the Progress gallery in Belgrade and Museum on 21st October in Kragujevac where it was opened by Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia Mrs. Maja Gojkovic and was visited by 1500 visitors.

PROJECT WEBSITE

Website www.logorjasenovac.rs is an online collection of documentation about the concentration camp Jasenovac systematized uniquely. Through ten chronologically organized chapters, we provide information about the entire existence of the camp, from its inception in 1942 to closure in 1945. The website contains many unique photographs from different archives – partners of our project.

“IRON BOOK OF JASENOVAC” SCULPTURE

Metal sculpture, created by artist Viktor Kish, contains ten pages – each linked with integrated digital video content by special codes.
